Work has begun on developing a second Digital Media Centre in Barnsley, the DMC 02.
The £1.7 million refurbishment by Barnsley Council will offer eight offices over three floors as well as a co-working space and maker-space lab.
DMC 02 is part of the Council’s plans to expand the original Digital Media Centre which currently hosts 50 digital companies.
The Council say it will offer over 100 new digital jobs in the town as well as grow-on space for existing companies wanting to scale up.
Tracey Johnson, manager of the DMC, said: “We’re at a really exciting point in the development of Barnsley’s creative and digital industries.
“DMC 02 is going to help us provide space and support to businesses in the industry who are rapidly expanding.
“It’s really an extension of what we already try to do at DMC 01 which is to create a friendly, inclusive and successful community of people and businesses with great ideas!’”
Deadline Digital MD Geoff Fox said: “The DMC has been a fantastic base for us for a number of years and it’s bursting with creativity. Being able to exchange knowledge and ideas with similar minded companies means we can offer a huge mix of skills to our clients.
“DMC 02 will be a great addition to the town. It really underlines Barnsley’s commitment to carving out a niche for itself as the perfect home for new and established cutting edge businesses of all sizes.”
DMC 02 is part of Barnsley Council’s £180 million investment in to the town centre generation.
The new building is set to open in Summer 2020.
