Barnsley’s new indoor market has now opened up its new eatery – the Market Kitchen.
Home to some of the market’s old favourites, Kay’s Cafe, Paul’s Cafe and Hilton’s Cafe can all now be found in the upstairs food hall.
It marks the end of the first phase of The Glassworks regeneration, a multi-million pound investment into the town centre.
The market is not yet complete though, with more restaurants expected to be added to the food hall.
The official opening saw the Mayor of Barnsley Steve Green ringing the old market bell.
There were also guest appearances from a Gordon Ramsay look-a-like and Veggie the Market Mascot.
David Stewart, Barnsley Council’s Service Director for Economic Regeneration says he’s impressed with the new results.
“People can expect the best local produce, a really high quality of service from the fantastic cafes operating here and a location that’s second to none.”
“I think people are now growing increasingly proud of what we have to offer and what they have to offer, so bring your friends and bring your family.”
